The best original you have is now the new 1tb SSD. I chose the NVMe for this because it is a copy of a copy. It will require that you make an image of the 256gb SSD and use bootable Macrium to restore part of it to the NVMe. I'll keep my old SSD as backup with it unused - I wont hook SATA nor power cable to it. If your machine boots properly from the temp 256gb SSD, try this. So with Prime day discounts, I decided to get a new SSD to use it and then just use it going forward. I do not want to risk it on my current drive in case of a problem - shy from recent old image and updating.

I want to do an initial restore for experience with Macrium. In this video, I use the most recent version of Macrium Reflect Free to clone Windows from a 1 TB hard drive to a 360 GB M.2 SSD, and keep it bootable. Press Windows + S, type command prompt in the dialogue box, right-click on the application and select Run as administrator. Use your external drive - make an image of the original drive to the external SSD. I recently had a problem with Windows Defender and tried to restore a Windows created image from a few months ago.

The Pro uses true MLC memory, whereas the Evo uses TLC (branded as 3 bit MLC) and Samsung states to overcome the lower endurance of the EVO drives' memory, it reserves space on them but I find no similar disclosure for the Pros, so I assume none is reserved. I know the Evo is - it is an advertised 250 GB drive that has 256 capacity with Samsung stating that 6GB is fully reserved. I am not sure if the 860 Pro is over provisioned.
